Chapter 14: The Parting of Ways

Joey walked in to the HQ with the other three following. The
door from the garage was right next to the training facility so
Jackie was there when they entered. Seeing her master enter she
snarled and walked away.

Joey wasn't in the best mood due to the mornings roller coaster
ride so she wasn't quite up to being treated like that by her own
pokemon.

<This is translated into English because both are talking in
pokemon.>

"Jackie what in the hell is your problem?!?"

"You are."

"Is your ego so fricking big that you can't stand to lose one
battle?"

"No it's just I don't happen to like losing on purpose."

"If you can't stand me so much then why don't you just leave?"

"Fine then, Joey. I will." With that said she turned and left.

Joey stood for a moment. She realized what she had just said.
Without talking to the waiting Ira and Michelle (Luke had
headed off somewhere else), she headed off to her room.

Ira looked to Michelle. "What did they both say?"

Michelle gave him a look then remembered he wasn't a
pokemon. "They we're fighting over the battle that Joey lost to
me awhile back. Joey said that if Jackie doesn't like her so much
then she can leave and Jackie took it seriously and left."

"So that's why she was so upset," observed Ira, "I'd go and talk
to her but since I'm a guy I'm not allowed in her room."

"Don't worry I'll go and talk to her," replied Michelle and
walked over to Joey, Magick, and Jads' room.

<Change to Joeys P.O.V>

I was crying and I didn't care. I hadn't meant to say something
so harsh. I didn't mean to make my best electric pokemon leave.
I remembered back when I first caught Jackie...

<Begin Flashback!>

"Gary when do we get to the next town?"

"Your asking me? You're the one with the map remember?"

"Oh yeah right!" I pulled the map out of my backpack and
looked at it. We weren't far from Celadon City. We had ended
up lost for awhile but found the main road this morning.

It was great traveling with a pokemon master like Gary. My luck
had definitely changed for the better. I had already gotten three
badges and caught a whole bunch of kool pokemon. I trained my
pokemon evenly like Gary had taught me so they all were really
strong. I tried to have a balanced team but I could never catch
any electric types so I had a really big weakness.

While I was thinking I forgot to watch my step and tripped on a
rock. I prepared to fall flat on my face like I always did but was
stopped by a jerking pain in my spine. I regained my balance and
turned around to see that Gary had pulled my tail in order to stop
me from falling. I smiled and thanked him then we walked on.

It had only been a week since I had told Gary that I was a mew.
He hadn't reacted at all like I thought he would if I ever told
him. I thought he was going to leave me on my own or even
worse, try and capture me. But no, he still treated me like his
partner. He was so sweet sometimes.

Before I knew it I tripped again. It caught Gary off guard too so
in the event of trying to catch me he fell over on top of me. After
laying on the ground like that for a moment we finally realized
how awkward it was and both turned red. He stood up and then
helped me up. We turned away from each other in
embarrassment. Then I realized we weren't alone.

A jolteon was sitting on the side of the road laughing her head
off.

"What's so funny?" I yelled and Gary turned around to see who I
was yelling at.

"A jolteon," he said, "I've never seen one before." Gary pulled
his pokedex out of his back pocket and registered seeing the
pokemon. I had noticed that he was doing that quite a lot.
Probably because of his rivalry with Ash.

"I think you two are pretty funny," the jolteon laughed. "The
way you both turned red at the same time, priceless!"

"Oh shut up," I said.

Gary looked at me, "What did she say?"

I repeated what the jolteon said for him and he said the same
thing as I had.

The jolteon narrowed her eyes at me. "So why is the rare
pokemon Mew hanging out with a human?"

I looked at her back. "He's my friend."

"You can't trust humans."

"Yes you can."

She laughed. "You're still young so you don't know the pains of
abandonment."

"You were abandoned?"

"Yeah. Abused and abandoned."

"How sad..."

"You don't know the half of it."

"You're right I don't. Would you like to come with me cause
I'm not human."

"No I don't."

"Why?"

"Because you think you're a human."

"No I don't."

"Look at you. You've used your transform attack to transform
yourself to human. You'd be fully transformed if you weren't
such a klutz."

"I am not a klutz!"

"Then why have you tripped twice in the last 5 minutes?"

"How did you know about the first time?"

The jolteon smirked coyly. "I didn't until you just told me."

I hung my head in shame. "That was a low blow..."

"Um... Joey?"

I turned to Gary. "Yeah?"

"What in the hell are you two talking about?"

Then I realized that I had been talking in pokemon to the jolteon.
"I'll tell you later ok?" He nodded and I turned to the jolteon
who was slowly walking away.

"Wait! I want to be your trainer!"

"I don't need a trainer."

"You may not need a trainer but I need a pokemon."

"So? Why is it a concern to me?"

"Well you're the strongest electric pokemon I've ever met."

The jolteon stopped after hearing my compliment. "What are
you trying to get to?"

"I'd at least like to battle you."

"All right then kid. I'll grant you that request."

"Great!" I reached for Infernos pokeball before I was interrupted
by the jolteon.

"No. Not in that way. I want to fight you."

"Ok...." I transformed into my true form.

The jolteon smiled. "That's more like it."

"You're going to battle her yourself," Gary asked. I nodded. I
hadn't battled since I had left Washu and Kats house so I was
pretty out of practice. I still knew how though.

The jolteon led us to a small clearing in the woods where she
decided the battle would take place. I had no objections so we
both stood at opposite ends of the field with Gary standing
behind me.

On Garys call the battle began. I used my mega punch attack but
was beaten out by the jolteons enormous speed. She had used
thunderbolt and I was hit hard. I connected with my mega punch
attack only to find it didn't do very much damage on my
opponent. My level was pretty low compared to hers.

After seeing my low level, the jolteon decided to use her speed
to the advantage. She turned toward me and braced her feet in
the ground. I watched as her soft golden fur turned into spiky
needles.

I only knew three attacks and none we're defensive so I didn't
have any way to block the pin missel attack. Before I knew it I
was hit by five needles in a row before everything went black...

I woke up to see Gary and the jolteon both looking down at me. I
was laying on a small blanket that had been folded up. I noticed
it was dark so I probably had been knocked out for a few hours.

"What happened," I asked wearily. My head was throbbing
badly and it hurt to move.

"Jackie fainted you."

"Jackie?"

The jolteon smiled. "That's me."

"How did you find out her name," I asked.

Gary smiled his cute smile. "Eevee has been translating for me."

"Look Joey, I'm sorry for fainting you like that. Sometimes I
don't know my own strength."

"It's ok Jackie."

"No it's not. I shouldn't have used my pin missel attack on you.
I knew that you we're a lower level then I was..."

I closed my eyes. "Don't worry about it. I'll get over the loss."

"Joey," Jackie asked in a quiet tone.

I kept my eyes closed. "Yeah?"

"Will you be my trainer?"

"Sure." Then I drifted off to sleep.

<End Flashback>

My loyal electric pokemon was gone now. She wouldn't come
back. She was too stubborn to do anything like that. I was so
upset. And I had seen Feathers today too. It was unexpected
because I hadn't planned to meet with him. My whole day was
ruined just because I said something stupid. It was all my fault.

Someone knocked on the door. I wanted to be alone. "Go
away!" I yelled harshly.

"Joey can I talk to you?" It was Michi.

I buried my face in the pillow and yelled again. "I SAID GO
AWAY!"

Michelle entered anyway. She stood by the bed and crossed her
arms. "Joey I just want to try and make you feel better."

"Just leave me alone."

"No."

"Go away."

"Not going."

"Yes!"

"Nope."

"I said go!"

"Staying right here."

"GO!" I used my thunder shock attack on her. Much to my
surprise she laughed and stood there unaffected.

"Heh heh heh. I'd think you'd know better then to use an electric
attack on an electric pokemon."

I smiled a bit then sat up. "That was just a warning shot."

"Wanna talk?"

We sat and talked for awhile. Michi reassured me that it wasn't
my fault and that Jackie just needed to blow off some steam then
she'd be back. I knew she was wrong. She didn't know Jackie as
well as I did. But I still had to give her credit for trying.

Soon a meeting was called concerning the training of the new
members. The meeting was called to decide if any of the other
new recruits needed any training. It was decided that everyone
else was pretty much fine. After a heated debate, I lost the
argument with Dreana and was forced to train Ira and Jads. No
big deal though. I could take it. I just needed some time to
myself.

<End Joeys P.O.V>

"Yo Jadsy have you seen Joey around," Magick asked.

Jadsy looked up from playing Zelda: Majoras Mask. "No I
haven't seen her since the meeting got over."

"Dang. Thanks anyway."

"No problem."

Magick closed the door and leaned on it. Joey had gone missing
since the end of the meeting. She wanted to challenge Joey to a
match because she had been training for the past few days. She
didn't know what level Joey was but she thought that battling
her would give her some good experience points. Sadly, Joey
was no where to be found.

She asked a few more people to see if they knew where she went
but met with no luck. Then the thought hit her. Joey could have
left the HQ to go do something else above ground. She'd have to
ask Dreana if she left or not, because she somehow knew
everything that went on in the HQ.

"Dreana, has Joey left the HQ at all after the meeting?"

"No she hasn't Magick."

"Is she in her lab?"

"Nope."

"Do you know where she is?"

"Yup."

"Are you going to tell me where she is?"

"Nope."

"Why not?"

"I have my reasons. If you want to find her then you're going to
need to find her yourself."

Magick floated away, depressed that she hadn't found Joey and
that Dreana hadn't given her a reason. "Oh well," she thought
aloud, "I'll just have to battle her tomorrow." She was bored so
she looked at various books on a bookshelf. They had lots of
fantasy and science fiction. There were a lot of books so she
assumed that it probably got pretty boring around the HQ.

Slowly she rose higher, glancing at various titles. She had read a
few of them but most were books she had already read. Since
she had nothing better to do she decided to look for a book that
she'd read. Looking up she saw that sitting on the top of the
shelf was a hardcover book of a light maroon colour to it. The
book had caught her interest so slowly she flew up to it.

She landed on the top of the shelf and noticed the dust. It was
pretty high up so it probably wasn't dusted in awhile. She picked
up the book and brushed the layer of dust of the cover. The title
read, "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy."

"That's a good book," said a voice from behind Magick, "One of
my favorites."

Magick turned around to find Joey curled up on a fuzzy purple
towel, with one eye open looking at her.

"What are you doing up here Joey?" Magick asked while sitting
down.

Joey yawned. "Keep it down please. This is my secret spot.
Dreana's the only one who knows about this place other than
me."

"But why are you up here?"

"Other than the fact that it's warm," She slightly nodded to the
heating vent that was in the wall. "I come up here when I want to
be alone to think about things."

"I see."

Joey closed her one open eye. "You were looking for me?"

"Yeah. I wanted to know if you wanted to battle me."

"Fine by me." She sat up then hit her head on the roof. Magick
chuckled and Joey gave her the look. She stretched then looked
down over the edge of the shelf to see if the coast was clear. It
was so she dropped down off the top of the shelf then motioned
for Magick to follow. A bit hesitantly Magick followed and they
both headed out of the HQ to go and battle.

While flying along in the cold night air, Joey explained
something very important to Magick. "Now since you now also
know about my secret spot you must swear to tell know one
about it ok?"

"Right your secret is safe with me."

"Good. Here's the clearing I told you about." Joey landed and
Magick landed on the opposite end of the field.

Magick braced her feet in the damp soil. "Promise not to go easy
on me?"

Joey laughed then got into her battle stance. "You know I won't.
Bring it on Magick."
