The Megami Series II: Episode One

The narrator walked into the bright spot light. He looked around and sighed. Yusuke and the Reikai Tantei have been invited to the Dark Tournament by Toguro, who was supposedly dead. After all of the team went through harsh training. They were finally on the boat toward the island where this demon martial arts tournament is going to take place. The Reikai Tantei defeated all other opposing teams on their boat. The whole time, Yusuke was sleeping and still is. The narrator took a breath then started his rant.

Oh my god!!! This is so stupid! How the hell does this Toguro guy come back to life? What is he, some sort of god?! Anyway, why does this thing say "defeated" when the team killed all of the people on the boat? And how the hell can Yusuke be asleep and kill people?! I just don’t get it!! Plus, all of this demon stuff is crap! It’s just a whole bunch of violent fantasies for obsessive freaks!! Gods!! I really got to find another job!! He declared as he ran out of the room.

Kuwabara, Kurama, Hiei, and the masked fighter sat around in the living room section of their hotel room. They had just met Rinku and Zeru, two opponents they would fight in the first round. Even after their ‘talk’ they still couldn’t’ get their minds off Toguro.

Kuwabara banged his fist on the table next to the broken tea cup. "Toguro is so strong! How are we going to beat him?" He leaned back and looked out the dark window.

Kurama had his arms crossed and looked at Kuwabara. "We have to make it through the other four rounds before we even face Toguro…" He glanced at a clock on the wall. "It’s late." He said as he stood up. "We should get some sleep. We do have to fight in the morning."

"Hn." Hiei sat on the window sill, not looking at either of them. He glanced at Yusuke, who was asleep on the couch. "Looks like he’s getting enough sleep."

Kurama sighed and looked down at Yusuke as well. "Well, he did train hard with Genkai-san." He walked over to the doorway to one of the bedrooms. "Let’s hope he can wake up for the fight tomorrow."

Kuwabara smirked and threw his arm over Yusuke’s shoulders. "Doubt it!" He pushed Yusuke down onto the couch. Yusuke didn’t even stir. "He’s sleeping like a baby!"

Hiei stood up and jumped onto the carpet. "Well I’m going to bed now. Any excuse to get away from you." He said as he disappeared in a bedroom.

"Hey!" Kuwabara yelled, even though Hiei was already gone.

Later that night, the hotel room was pitch black, and someone had left a window open in the main room. A light breeze floated in through the open window, and with it, a voice. "Come out… Come out and fight… We are waiting…" There was a slight pause, then, "Or do you fear us…? Yusuke… Kurama… Hiei… Kuwabara… Come and fight us…"

Yusuke sat up from his position on the couch, where everyone had left him. "What the hell?" He got up and looked out the window, with a look of annoyance.

Kuwabara ran out of one of the bedrooms. "What was that?"

"That voice…" Kurama said from the shadow of the doorway.

Hiei stood next to him and glared at Yusuke. "What’s going on…?"

Yusuke looked down at the dark ground, several stories below them. His eyes widened and he turned and ran out of the hotel room. Kuwabara ran after him. "Urameshi!!" He stopped right outside the hotel, and saw Yusuke walk a little ways into the forest that covered the island. He had to stop to catch his breath, and then followed.

Yusuke was facing a dark shadowy area and looking around. "What do you want? Why did you call us out here?!"

Kurama and Hiei walked up next to Kuwabara and Yusuke. "Show yourself!" Kurama called out.

Hiei crossed his arms. "Hn. Cowards."

Suddenly a person stepped out of the shadows. He was draped in a midnight blue cloak, and all you could see from under his hood, was a dark shadow. "We are not cowards." They could tell there were no words spoken, it was simply telepathy. The thinker obviously did not want them to hear his voice.

Hiei narrowed his eyes at this mysterious person. "Then tell us why you called us out here."

The figure didn’t flinch at Hiei’s glare at all. "Because we want to fight you."

Kurama had also been looking at this person, trying to figure out what their plan was. "Who are you?"

Another figure stepped out from behind the midnight blue one. But this person had on a dark forest green cloak, also concealing their face. "You shall know in time. But first, fight us." This person also spoke with telepathy.

Hiei just glared at them. "Hn. We don’t have time for these games. Tell us who you are, or I’ll-"

"At least one of you has a fighting spirit." The green cloaked figure remarked.

Hiei looked pissed off. "Hn. You can’t speak to me like I’m some inferior being!!" He yelled as he quickly unsheathed his sword and slashed down at the two cloaked figures.

The blue one held up his hand, and Hiei smacked into an invisible barrier. "Fighting spirit indeed… But that will not help him in the long run." He looked at the green cloaked figure. "Maybe they aren’t worth fighting after all?"

The green one shook his head. "Even if they’re not, we could still keep them from going into the dark tournament."

Kurama cleared his throat. "Well, I see you aren’t going to tell us who you are. So, why do you want to fight us so much?"

The blue one looked at him. "We want to stop you from entering the tournament."

"But why?" Kurama was trying his trick of wordplay. But this person was smart and simply shook his head.

     "We have our reasons."

Kuwabara stepped forward. "C’mon! You gotta tell us something!"

"Be quiet!" The green cloaked figure demanded. He held up his hand, and a bubble formed around Kuwabara.

"Hey!" Kuwabara yelled as he started pounding on the bubble.

Kurama’s eyes widened ever so slightly. This seems familiar…

The blue cloaked figure seemed to be getting annoyed. "So, are you going to fight us, or not?"

Yusuke, who had just been listening and watching the whole time, stepped forward. "Yeah, I’ll fight you. I don’t know who the hell you are, but you’re starting to piss me off."

The green cloaked figure looked at him for a while. "Urameshi Yusuke… I want to fight you last."

Yusuke just looked at him. "No, c’mon! Right now!"

Hiei stepped in front of him. "Back off, Yusuke. I want to take him." He glared at the green cloaked figure.

"No." The midnight blue cloaked figure stepped in front of Hiei. "I will fight you first."

Hiei just glared, and then he pointed his sword at the person in front of him. "It’s all the same with me." And they both began to glare at each other.

Kurama looked at them both. "Hmmm…"

Yusuke looked at him. "What is it?"

"They act like they’ve wanted to fight for some time." Kurama replied as he stared at the two of them. "Even though they just met."

Kuwabara looked confused. "What do you mean?"

"Just look." Kurama said as he nodded his head towards Hiei and the blue cloaked figure.

Kuwabara and Yusuke turned and watched them. They weren’t fighting, but they were glaring at each other a lot. "Hey, you’re right… But how could they know each other?" Kuwabara asked.

"You know as well as I do." Yusuke shrugged.

"Both of you, shut up." Hiei told them. They immediately became silent. But this is strange. Why do I feel like I know these two? He glared at his opponent, pulled out his katana, and held it up.

The green cloaked figure looked at the two of them. "Begin."

"Hn!" Hiei darted around to the side of the blue cloaked one and slashed at the side of his head. He simply held up his hand in Hiei’s face and sent Hiei flying back into a tree.

The blue cloaked figure shook his head. "Pathetic yokai."

Hiei stood up and glared at him. "Damn ningen."

"My turn." The blue cloaked figure pointed his hand at Hiei. At first Hiei just gave him a questioning look, then quickly darted away as the tree he had been standing in front of snapped in half. That was close, Hiei thought to himself as he repositioned himself for another attack.

"Yes, but it will not save you to have your speed." The blue cloaked figure replied to Hiei’s thought process.

Hiei glared at the intrusion to his mind. He held his katana at ready, but stood still. "Who are you?" he asked with suspicion.

They could not see his face, but it seemed the blue cloaked figure was smirking. "Can’t you tell Jagan-eyed one?"

Hiei continued to glare. "Hn. Damn telepath."

The blue cloaked figure held out his hand, and a branch ripped off a near-by tree, then flew into his hand. He inspected it, and then looked back at Hiei and held up the branch in an attack position similar to one used when fighting with a staff.

"Hn." Hiei muttered as he jumped forward and attacked. They soon became a blur as they exchanged blows to fast for even Kurama or Yusuke to see.

Hiei jumped back for a brief second then jumped and slashed at his opponent again. The cloaked figure wasted no time in a counter attack, as he quickly dodged behind Hiei, and lightly tapped his forehead, then did a follow-up with a strong kick that sent him flying into Yusuke.

"Hey!" Yusuke fell backward onto the ground as he struggled to get Hiei off.

The blue cloaked figure just glared down at Hiei. "Damn yokai…" he muttered as he grabbed his right elbow.

The green cloaked figure looked at him for a second then turned his attention to Hiei. "Hiei is down. I shall begin the count. 1, 2,--"

Hiei stood up and jumped off Yusuke as he too stood up. "I won’t be defeated that easily!" he yelled with outrage.

"Hm." The blue cloaked figure pointed his finger at Hiei. "Some just won’t admit when they’ve lost."

Hiei suddenly fell back like he’d been hit in the head. Yusuke jumped out of the way as Hiei nearly fell on him again. "Hey, watch it!"

The midnight blue cloaked figure stood over Hiei. "10. You have lost." He looked at the other three of the Reikai Tantei. "Who will I fight next?"

The three of them were silent for a minute, and then Kurama stepped forward. "I shall fight you next."

"No." the blue cloaked figure replied almost too quickly. "Someone else."

Kurama hardened his gaze. "No. I will fight you."

The blue cloaked figure looked back at the green one. He nodded silently, and the blue one turned to face Kurama again. "Alright. I shall fight you next." He mumbled, still holding his right arm.

The green cloaked figure looked at the arm for a second then muttered, "Begin."

The blue cloaked figure held out his hand and the tree branch he had dropped flew back into it.

Kurama pulled an elegant rose out of his hair. "Rosewhip!" he yelled as his rose turned into the deadly rosewhip. He held it up, ready to attack.

"You won’t attack first, will you?" the blue cloaked figure asked amusedly.

Kurama smiled, but did not drop his defenses. "I saw what happened when Hiei attacked first. He is a bit too arrogant for his own good."

"Fine then." The blue cloaked figure jumped forward and swung his tree branch at Kurama’s head.

Kurama easily jumped to the side and wrapped his rosewhip around the branch, which he then yanked out of the blue cloaked figure’s hand. He narrowed his eyes. Hmmm… He is moving much more slowly than when he fought Hiei…

The blue figure landed with one knee on the ground, but quickly stood up and looked at Kurama.

Kurama speedily started slashing at the blue figure numerous times. The cloaked figure dodged each time, then jump spin kicked at Kurama. Kurama grabbed his leg, and threw him to the ground. Did fighting Hiei weaken him this much, or is it something else?

The blue figure landed on his right arm hard. "Damnit!" he cursed out loud, but quickly stood up, holding his right arm at the elbow again.

Yusuke raised his eyebrow. "So they can speak normally."

Kurama was looking at the blue cloaked figure suspiciously. That voice…

The blue figure looked between them, then held up his left hand and pointed it at Kurama. Kurama flew back into a tree with great force. He dropped his rosewhip, which turned back into a rose as it fell to the ground. Kurama slumped to the bottom of the tree. The blue cloaked figure walked over to Kurama slowly and looked down at him. "Kurama is down. 1, 2, 3, 4—"

Kurama suddenly jumped up and lunged at the blue figure. The blue figure tried to step back, but tripped and fell backward as Kurama pinned him down. He quickly grabbed the blue cloaked figure’s hands and pinned them over his head, but then looked at his face.

The momentum from the fall had knocked back the blue cloaked figure’s hood, to reveal something startling, though he started struggling. "You’re a…girl?" Kurama asked as he stared at the teenage girl he had pinned to the ground.

The girl continued to struggle. "Hey! I’m not some little girl! I’m fifteen!" She struggled more, because Kurama did not loosen his grip. "What’d you do to my powers?!" she asked with outrage. She shook a few strands of golden-red hair out of her eyes as she glared up at Kurama.

"Paralysis seed." He mumbled with amusement.

"6, 7, 8, 9, 10." Nobody had noticed that the green cloaked figure had been counting. "Kurama win this fight."

Kurama immediately stood up and helped the teenage girl up. Then he reached to the back of her neck and pulled out a small seed, which he returned to his hair. The girl just turned from him and held her right elbow.

Kurama leaned down to whisper in her ear, suddenly realizing something. "Mitsukai-sama?"

She looked back at Kurama with wide eyes, then nodded and looked down.

Kurama glanced at the green cloaked figure and then whispered to Mitsukai again, "And that means that is Aohiki-sama?"

Mitsukai nodded silently, still looking down.

"Damn!" Yusuke exclaimed with a smirk. "Hiei is going to be pissed when he wakes up and finds out he was beaten by a human girl!"

"Hey!" Mitsukai glared at him. "You say ‘human girl’ like it’s a bad thing! I’m a lot stronger than you!"

Kurama looked over at Yusuke and Kuwabara. They still don’t remember…

"You seem like any other girl that goes to our school." Yusuke replied to Mitsukai’s yell.

Kuwabara had his head tilted. "I don’t know Urameshi, she does seem familiar…"

Mitsukai started getting mad. "Well, are you guys going to continue fighting or not?"

     Yusuke laughed. "With you?"

Mitsukai glared death at him. "No. With my friend." She said as she pointed at the green cloaked figure.

Yusuke looked between them. "Hey, for all we know, she’s probably another teenage girl! I’m not fighting any of you. This is stupid and pointless!"

Mitsukai glared at him, but the green cloaked figure replied first. "You said you would fight us. You agreed. Not going to back down now, are you? Coward."

Yusuke glared at the green cloaked figure. "Coward!? Why you…"

"Come fight me if you wish."

"Fine! C’mon!" Yusuke yelled as he stepped forward.

     "Begin!" Mitsukai said.

Yusuke smirked. "Now, if you stay still, it won’t hurt as much!" he said as he darted forward with great speed, and attempted to punch the green cloaked figure.

The green cloaked figure merely stepped aside. "Is that the best you can do?"

"I’m just warming up!" Yusuke exclaimed as he threw another punch.

The green cloaked figure easily dodged again. "You make me laugh…HAHAHA! Now, Urameshi Yusuke, you could give up right now before I hurt you."

"No way, you lousy…" Yusuke cut himself off and glared at the green figure. But what can I do without wasting too much energy?

The green cloaked figure glanced at Mitsukai, then looked back at Yusuke. She tilted her head. "I was going to save this move, but I think you deserve it."

"…Are you bluffing, or something?" Yusuke suddenly doubled over. "Itai… What the hell did you do to me?"

     "Do you give up now?"

Yusuke stood up straight. "Not a chance! You’re going to pay for humiliating me!"

     "I don’t want to hurt you…"

"Yeah right!" Yusuke replied arrogantly. "You brought this fight upon yourself, so FIGHT!" He held up his hand in the rei-gun position.

"Stop!" A green bubble suddenly formed around Yusuke.

"What the hell, get me out of this thing!" he yelled as he banged his fist against the bubble.

Hiei sat up and rubbed his head at that point. "What happened?" He looked at Yusuke in the green bubble.

Yusuke was still trying to break the bubble. "What the hell do I have to do to get out of this thing?" he asked as he held up his hands in the rei-gun position again.

"I wouldn’t do that." Hiei muttered. He was standing behind Kuwabara with his arms crossed.

Yusuke looked back at him. "Oh, so you’re finally awake. What do you know?" he asked with annoyance.

"I don’t think you would be able to get out of there." Hiei replied as he glared at Yusuke.

"Do you think I’m lame or something?" Yusuke glared back at Hiei.

     "…Fool."

"Yeah!" Mitsukai smirked. "Now look who’s winning! What do you have to say now, eh Yusuke?" she gave him a mocking smile. Kurama looked down at her with a raised eyebrow. "Sorry."

"Hm, whatever." Yusuke looked back at the green cloaked figure. "Well, I’m not listening to shorty over there." He held up his hand in rei-gun position again. "Rei-gun!" he shot at the bubble but it did not break in the least bit. "What the hell?"

     "Hn." Hiei muttered.

"Now you have wasted some of your reiki, Oniisan. Oops…" the green cloaked figure giggled.

Yusuke tilted his head. "Oniisan? You’re…" he smiled, "Aohiki! Hey, get me out of here. Why are you trapping me in a lame bubble?"

Aohiki pulled her hood back. "I’m sorry, Oniisan…" The bubble around Yusuke disappeared.

Hiei stared at her. "…Kiragi Aohiki, Green Goddess of Wisdom."

"So you remember me somewhat, Hiei. If you remembered me all the way, you would know I prefer ‘guardian’ over ‘goddess’." Aohiki said with a smile.

Hiei narrowed his eyes at Aohiki. "I don’t remember you, why would I? I’ve never met you before in my life. I have heard about you in Reikai."

"What?" Aohiki looked at him, confused. Hiei doesn’t remember me…?

Mitsukai looked at Hiei, with her arms crossed. I don’t think that’s it necessarily. I think he doesn’t want to remember you. But he has his mind blocked really well. I can’t read it.

"I guess you really don’t remember then…" Aohiki sighed. If he wants to or not? I’m not sure. Oh well. "I guess we couldn’t stop you from going to the tournament, then."

Kuwabara jumped in front of Yusuke and Hiei and grabbed Aohiki’s hand. "Aohiki-sama! What about me? I didn’t get to fight yet!"

Aohiki pulled her hand out of Kuwabara grasp and sweat dropped. "No Kuwabara, you need all your strength for the fights. Mitsukai-chan and I have to be going now." She turned to leave.

"We can’t let you leave in the middle of the night!" Kuwabara complained. "Urameshi and I can sleep in the living room, and you girls can have our room. Whaddya say?"

Mitsukai looked at Kurama. "I think I’d like to stay out here, and you guys do need rest." She sweat dropped in a guilty way. "We did kind of wake you up in the middle of the night…"

Yusuke waved his hand. "I’d been sleeping all day anyway."

"I don’t want to distract you before your fights. They do start tomorrow." Aohiki looked at Mitsukai. "Besides, Mitsukai-chan and I have to go back to our home."

Kurama looked at both of them. "Please stay. We insist."

"Hn." Hiei broke up the mood. "Speak for yourself, Kurama. Maybe you do, but I wouldn’t want to stop a goddess who’s trying to leave." He glared at Mitsukai, and she glared back, then he glared at Aohiki for an especially long time.

"What, still upset about losing to me, Hiei?" Mitsukai asked in a mocking way as she pulled his attention off Aohiki. She would not let someone glare at her best friend that way.

Hiei glared at her. "Hn. That has nothing to do with it." He looked back at Aohiki. "Don’t you have knowledge to guard, goddess? Better than staying at a tournament."

Kuwabara was getting annoyed at Hiei’s cocky attitude. "Do you want them to leave, Hiei?"

"Hn. I don’t care. It’s none of my business anyway. Stay if you want, just don’t expect me to watch over you." Hiei replied coldly.

Mitsukai smirked, suddenly getting it. "You’re trying really hard now, Hiei." She crossed her arms.

Hiei glared at her. "To what?"

Mitsukai’s smirk broadened. "To not like Aohiki."

Blood rushed to Hiei’s face, whether from anger or embarrassment, no one could tell. "I don’t have time for this." He announced as he walked away.

Kuwabara shook his head then turned back to Aohiki as if Hiei had never been there in the first place. "So what do you say? We can’t leave you out in the cold tonight."

Mitsukai looked at Aohiki. "Anou… You and Yusuke do need to sleep for the fight tomorrow. Why don’t you just go up and me and Aohiki’ll come up later." She smiled innocently.

Yusuke tilted his head and looked at Kurama. "What about Hiei and Kurama?"

"Hiei is off doing his own thing, and I’ll come up later." Kurama replied quickly.

Yusuke just shrugged. "Fine. Whatever." He yawned and walked back to the front of the hotel. "Ja ne." they could hear from where they were still standing. Kuwabara just shrugged and followed him.

Aohiki looked anxiously at Mitsukai. Can we leave now? I don’t want to be here. It makes me uncomfortable…

Mitsukai looked at her worriedly. Why? What’s wrong? She looked off in the direction Hiei had gone. It’s Hiei, isn’t it? She clenched her fists and glared. Damned yokai.

Damned yokai indeed. Aohiki shook her head. Mitsukai looked back at her. But you don’t plan to stay here, do you? I don’t want to get in Oniisan’s way… Aohiki put her hands over Mitsukai’s fists.

To her surprise, Mitsukai laughed. "Yusuke will be fine, ne Kurama?" she asked looking back at him.

He just smiled. "Whatever you were talking about, I suppose it had something to do with Yusuke. But yes, he’s gotten a lot stronger since the last time we saw you two."

Mitsukai looked back at Aohiki. "And, as much as I don’t like Hiei, that’s how much you do." She whispered in Aohiki’s ear.

Aohiki turned red. "No, you just want to stay with Kurama." She whispered back, and then smiled. "So, I guess I could bear to stay."

Mitsukai just gave her a look. "Dude," definitely raised in the United States, "I can read your mind."

"Dude, well. Fine!" Aohiki replied, turning redder.

Mitsukai smiled evilly. "You’re turning red."

"So are you!" Aohiki yelled back, though she was far redder in the face than Mitsukai.

Kurama coughed to break up there little chat. "So… would you like to know where our room is?" he asked, trying to change the subject.

"Sure." Mitsukai replied. She looked at Aohiki closely. "Or do you want to stay and look for Hiei?"

Aohiki glared. "I’m going to bed. Besides, Hiei thinks I’m a total stranger." She said coldly.

Kurama coughed again. "Should we go now?"

"Yeah…" Mitsukai mumbled as she followed Kurama and Aohiki back to the hotel.

Aohiki and Mitsukai walked into the small bedroom while Kurama just stood in the doorway. Yusuke and Kuwabara were already asleep on the couch and chair in the living room area. "Thank you, Kurama." Aohiki mumbled as she turned and bowed to him. "Good night."

Mitsukai was about to close the door, but Kurama held out his hand. "Mitsukai-sama, are you going to bed right away? I would like to talk to you."

Mitsukai nearly melted at his cool smile, and turned bright red. "S-sure…"

"Oh gods!" Aohiki mumbled. "Com on, Aoi-chan let’s leave them alone" she told Aoi-chan who was suddenly with Aohiki, as she shoved Mitsukai out of the room and closed the door.

"Come with me." Kurama said as he walked out into the hallway. Mitsukai followed and she closed the door to the hotel room behind herself, and started following Kurama down the hallway. "So, how have you been Mitsukai-sama?" Kurama asked over his shoulder.

"Fine, I guess." She replied slowly. "And, Kurama?"

He stopped and looked at her. "Yes?"

"You don’t have to call me sama."

     Kurama smiled. "Okay, Mitsukai…"

"Bed!" Aohiki announced as she flopped onto one of the two beds in the room. "Ah… It feels so nice." A light wind ruffled her hair. She looked over at an open window. "What?" She sat up, feeling uneasy. "Who’s there?" She got up and walked over to the window. "Hello…?" A hand suddenly reached forward from behind her and covered her mouth before she could scream. The room was soon dark and empty, with Aoi-chan sitting in a corner, trembling.
