Team Rocket47's Bestest Fanfic
Chapter 17: Commence Destruction

This chapter is dedicated to Sarah, and anyone else who thinks I
can't write a suspenseful ending.

"Tac, I'm sick and tired of waiting," The Boss snapped over the
phone, in his calm yet annoyed tone of voice. "Finish your
mission by tonight or else." Then he hung up.

Tac sighed then hung up on his side of the line. He walked out
of the pokemon center with his hands in his jacket pockets,
thinking to himself.

He'd become rather attached to Team Rocket47. Not enough
that he wanted to stay, but it still would be a pity to see them go.
But if he wanted to gain trust in the eyes of Giovanni again, then
he'd have to do what must be done.

Spring was finally arriving, and it was a peaceful warm day. Ira
was on duty watching the cabin with Joey. She was currently
laying on the window sill as a mew. She was twitching lightly,
so she was most likely asleep.

The window sill wasn't that large to begin with. How she
managed to stay up there without falling off was beyond him. It
was probably a cat thing.

He leaned back on the couch and thought to himself about what
Kat had said a few days ago. Not really said, but more acted.
She didn't seem to trust Tac very much. He was beginning to
believe that maybe Joey was right about him.

"Doctor, how long do you think she can last in there?"

"I have faith in my experiment. If my calculations are correct, a
few months should be enough."

I heard the voices of the two humans outside the glass. The
voices were muffled by the glass and water, but I could still hear
them clearly enough. What did they mean, how long I could
last?

"A few months!?! That's insane! All our other specimens have
barely survived minutes!"

"Calm down. Everything is under my control. Adriana will be
fine."

Adriana? I looked at my own reflection through the water. My
striped fur was set off colour by the water.

I didn't understand. My fur had always been solid purple. Sure it
turned darker in the winter, but never striped. I was Joey, wasn't
I? What was happening? I felt like I was being trapped in
someone else's mind!

"We will begin the testing now."

I woke up with a start. It took me a few seconds to realize where
I was. After taking a few deep breaths, I calmed down. Only the
dream again.

The same dream I had been having every single night since as
long as I could remember. But it was becoming more detailed all
the time. What kind of testing did they mean? And whose dream
was it?

I laid there with my eyes closed trying to make sense of the
dream. I never could though. It was all too disorganizing in my
mind. It always was so confusing.

The clock on the wall chirped three times before falling silent. It
was three o'clock already. The days seemed to keep getting
longer and longer, which was always a good sign.

I rolled over and looked to Ira, who was sitting on the couch. I
smiled, and tried to get the dream out of my mind.

"Good morning to you too, Joey," he said with a smile.

I smirked. "Shut up you! Twas only a catnap." I remarked. Then
I grinned and hopped to the top of a low bookshelf, and flopped
down in the sunlight there.

"Really now," Ira remarked, while throwing darts at a picture of
Giovanni that was taped to the wall across from him.

I finished making the call to the police station from the
payphone. I had left my name as anonymous, the members of
Tr47 wouldn't need a name to know who it was who destroyed
them. Especially after what I had to do next.

It was around sunset, and Ira had headed down to the
underground base for awhile, leaving Joey to hold down the fort
by herself. No big deal though.

She was about to doze off again, when she heard the door
opening. She sighed and assumed it was just Ira, so she kept her
eyes closed.

"Hello, Joey."

Joey sat up and looked to the doorway, where Tac was standing.
He wasn't who she exactly wanted to see right then so she
sighed and asked, "What do you want?"

Tac smiled an evil smile. "If you really want to know, I'm here
to kill you."

Joey glared at him, then stood up. "I knew it. You were a traitor
all along weren't you?"

"Indeed I am. But no one believed you did they?"

Joey growled deep from within her throat. "Kat believed me."

"Yes she did. And that's why I came tonight instead of waiting
until later." Tac smiled again, then pulled a gun out of his back
pocket. "Now Joey, please hold still." He aimed the gun right at
her.

Joey backed up a step, putting her back against the wooden wall
of the cabin. She glared at him. "You won't get away with this,
Tac."

Tac's smile disappeared as he tilted the gun slightly and shot
Joey through the arm. "I told you not to move. Try it again and I
won't decide to miss." Then he aimed the gun back at her heart.
"And yes I will get away with it."

Joey glared at Tac again while holding her wounded arm, stifling
back a whimper. "If you kill me then my friends will hunt you
down and kill you slowly and painfully."

"Will they now? What happens when they're all in jail?" He
grinned. "I've already called the police and told them the
location of your underground base."

Joey closed her eyes. "Even if all the members are caught, you
don't think that we have other help? What about people like
Kat? You'll never be able to catch her."

"Do you think the police won't be taking extra precautions this
time? They've already had one breakout by you. They'll be more
prepared next time."

"You underestimate Team Rocket47, Tac."

Tac's smile disappeared again. "And all of you are living in a
fantasy. A dream. You really think that with such small force
that you can take down all of Team Rocket, where everyone else
has failed?"

Joey opened her eyes and looked at him, her blue eyes staring
into his dark brown ones. "Team Rocket47 will never fall."

"She was right...." Dreana had a worried look on her face.

Jads looked to Dreana. "Who was right?"

Dreana shook her head. "It's Tac. He's going to kill Joey."

"What?!?" Ira turned around and looked at her.

"You remember the argument you had with her a few months
ago right?"

Ira looked at her doubtfully. Shakily he said, "Yeah...."

"Well you were wrong," Dreana explained with the same shaky
tone of voice.

"How do you know?" Ira asked, sounding determined.

Dreana placed her head in her paws. Sounding like she was on
the verge of crying she said, "Because he's holding her at
gunpoint up at the cabin as we speak. She told me through
telepathy and it's impossible to lie that way."

Ira looked to the ground then announced, "I'm going after her."

Dreana snapped her head up. "Ira don't!" But he was already
through the door. Quietly she mumbled, "He'll never make it in
time."

Jads looked to Dreana. She too now looked concerned. "What
argument were you guys talking about?"

"After everyone had fallen asleep on the night when we
recruited new members, Ira and Joey got into a fight over
whether to let Tac become a member or not. I was still mad at
Joey so I sided with Ira. But...."

"Joey was right all along," finished Jads.

Dreana nodded sadly.

"So what are we gonna do, Dreana?"

Holding back a sob, Dreana answered, "Since Tac has informed
the police about this place, we have to close off the tunnels in
order to ensure our safety."

"What about Ira and Joey?"

"We can only pray that they'll live to come back."

* * *

"Why don't you just kill me then, if you have such an
opportunity? I know you've got five shots left in that gun. So
why not end my life now," she asked, as blood dripped down her
arm and onto the wood of the bookshelf.

Tac smiled and walked closer to the wounded mew, still holding
her at gunpoint. Smirking her replied, "It's only honorable if I
let you know who I really am, before you die."

"Go on then."

"My name really is Tac, and I'm one of the top ranking Team
Rocket members. I'm also a highly respected scientist in Team
Rocket. My boss, Giovanni, gave me this mission so I could
prove my loyalty to him. In case you were wondering, I was
ordered to single you out to be the first in Team Rocket47 to
die."

Joey closed her eyes and forced a smile through her pain. "Are
you done bragging yet?"

Tac chuckled, an eerie cold laugh that sent chills down Joey's
spine. "Still stubborn are you, even if you're going to die in a
few moments." He smiled again. "The first time I saw you at the
recruitment for members of Team Rocket47, I was worried that
you'd remember me. You did, just not directly. That's why you
didn't trust me while everyone else did."

Joey looked at him. "Remember you?"

"Let me tell you a story, Joey, that you may remember. In this
story, there was a stubborn little child just like you. She decided
she wasn't going to give up the rest of her pokemon to save the
life of one. Do you remember what happened to the one
pokemon?"

Joey gasped in shock, and felt like she had been hit by a rhydons
take down attack. She remembered back to the time outside of
Fuchsia City. She glared at Tac again, this time with tears falling
down her cheeks.

"It was you!"

Tac smiled again. "It seems that you do remember me now. A
pity that it's a bit to late."

There was a crashing sound from outside, and Joey smiled
through the tears. "Did you hear that, Tac? Your mission has
failed. Dreana has closed off the tunnels leading to the
headquarters."

Tac cursed himself for letting himself forget that Joey was
telepathic. He should have known that she could have warned
the others. In anger he raised the gun from Joey's heart to a
point directly between her eyes.

"At least I'll finish part of my mission."

He pulled the trigger.
