Team Rocket47's Bestest Fanfic
Chapter 21: Haunted Dreams

"Is the patient awake yet Nurse Joy?"

Nurse Joy was looking through the window at me. She then looked
to the guy standing next to her and answered, "No she's not."

The man frowned, said something I couldn't hear, then walked
away. What was his sudden interest in me being awake? I would
have sighed right then, but I was pretending to be asleep. And of
course, everyone was buying it.

It wasn't like I could move at all in the first place. Other then the
fact that they had me strapped down to a table, I still had that life
threatening wound through my stomach. About the only thing I
could think of that was keeping me alive was the IV line that was
attached to my unhurt arm. But that wasn't what was bothering me.

What was bothering was the fact that I kept thinking of the most
horrid memory of my life. The memory of what Tac reminded me
of back at the cabin. I continued to re live the time outside of Fuchia
City, where my second strongest pokemon was murdered.

* * *

I tried to run forward, but Gary was holding me back with all the
strength he had. Pleadingly he begged, "Joey, please stop...."

Tac smiled evilly and said, "You should listen to you're friend,
Joey. He knows what he's talking about." He slowly tightened his
finger on the trigger, causing me to stop dead in my tracks.

"Cue..... cubone.... bone.... cue...."

Wufei's cries stabbed into my heart, but I didn't dare move another
step. If I did, that evil Team Rocket member wouldn't hesitate to....

Tac then interrupted my thoughts. "So what'll it be kid? Are you
going to give up your other pokemon or shall I fire?"

I couldn't stand it anymore. I was just standing there, while Tac
held a gun to my beloved cubone's head. Wufei was staring into my
eyes, his mournful sobs echoing inside his skull helmet.

I looked to Tac, who was standing about 100 feet down the pier. I
couldn't understand how he could be so cruel and heartless. While
tears began to well up in my eyes I asked, "Why are you doing
this?"

Seemingly ignoring Wufei's whimpers, the treacherous boy, who
looked no older then 12, smirked evilly. Then he answered, "Why?
Because it's my job, that's why."

I glared, then tried to run to save Wufei again. I was jerked instantly
though, because Gary still had a strong grip on me. I stopped and
watched Tac again, who pulled the trigger tighter.

His partner, who was farther behind in the magikarp balloon that the
two had arrived in, was apparently growing inpatient. He crossed
his arms and complained, "This is getting old, Tac. Just get it over
with so we can go."

Tac turned to his partner and snapped, "I will. Just hold your
ponytas!" Then he turned back to Gary and I. Boredly he
announced, "Due to the request of my partner, I'm going to make
this quick. You have til the count of three to either hand over your
other 5 pokemon, or the cubone dies."

I gasped and yelled, "You can't!"

"One."

The tears started to fall from my eyes as Wufei began to yell out in
fear. I began to reach for my belt of pokeballs when suddenly I was
pulled backwards by Gary. Quietly he whispered in my ear, "Don't
give up your other pokemon. Wufei may live but they'll all
eventually be tortured to death by Team Rocket."

I nodded slightly and looked to Wufei, who was crying his eyes out.

"Two."

I couldn't take it. I ran toward Tac again, only to be stopped a
second time by Gary's strong grip. For a human, he was much
stronger then he looked.

"This is your own fault Joey. Three." Tac pulled the trigger.

"WUFEI NO!" Gary's hold on me finally broke as I ran forward.
The black haired boy dropped Wufei onto the wooden pier and then
turned and ran to the balloon, which was ready for take off. As the
two team rocket members flew off, I had reached my pokemon and
was cradling him in my arms.

Gary was down on his knees after being pulled down by my force.
He could only look on with pity as I felt Wufei, the first pokemon I
ever caught, take his last breath of life. He would never achieve his
one goal of evolving into a marowak. We would never defeat the
pokemon league together. We would never travel the world
together, and see all the pokemon in the world. I had promised
Wufei all these things. And now, because of my stupidity, that
promise was broken, and I had lost one of my best friends.

As Gary laid a comforting hand on my shoulder, I could only cry.

* * *

As I laid there, tied down and lifeless, I felt warm tears fall down
the sides of my face. The memory hurt me so much because I kept
thinking what I could have done differently to save Wufei. But I
couldn't change the past.

I heard a small noise and by reaction, opened my eyes to see what it
was. I completely forgot that I was trying to pretend to be asleep.
What had made me open my eyes was apparently the same guy who
was watching me before. I got a bad feeling from him from the first
time I saw him with my eyes.

"Well, well, well," he declared in a cold voice. "The mew seems to
be awake now."

I tried to speak, but the pain in my stomach prevented my from
doing so.

His eyes looked over me, as if I were just some pathetic pokemon.
(Sure I'm a pokemon, but I'm hardly pathetic!) He cleared his
throat then continued, "You seem to have woken up from a
nightmare, seeing as you've been crying. Or maybe you were crying
from the pain."

This guy was really starting to remind me of Tac, but who knew
where Tac was by now.

"Can't speak can you? Well it appears that you're just like every
other pokemon, and nothing special," he said. Now I was really
reminded of Tac.

Using my telepathic powers, I growled, "I can talk. It's just I don't
have anything to say to the likes of you."

He laughed coldly, sending shivers down my spine the same way
Tac's laugh did right before he reminded me of what happened
nearly 4 years ago. Then he said. "So she can speak. The mew who
goes by the name of Joey, and the same one who cleverly evaded
the police and rescued her friends. It's an honor to finally meet
you."

"I know enough about myself but who the heck are you?" I asked
psychically.

"My I've been so impolite haven't I? My name is Michel Green,
from the police force. You can call me Michel."

I had never heard of this guy before. "Alright Michel, What do you
want?"

Michel walked over to the table I was bound to while saying, "I
want nothing from you other then information, Joey."

I glared at him. "I'm not going to tell you anything."

"Oh really?" He made a face of fake surprise. Then his look turned
evil as he announced, "We have ways of making you talk." I looked
away from him and he slammed his fist on the table. In stern voice
he yelled, "Tell me where your other friends are!"

I winced, the vibrations on the table aggravating my wounds. But I
remained silent.

Michel's face was fixed into a frown. "It will be so much easier on
you if you simply talk," he said.

"I'll take it to the grave with me you dork," I said while still looking
away. He was still infuriated with me, because he slammed his fist
on the table again. I winced in pain, and whimpered from reaction.

He pondered for a minute then said, "You don't seem to like it
when I do that do you?" I shook my head slightly. "Maybe," he
said, "You'll tell me what I want to know, if I try doing this!" He
suddenly pressed his hand down on my wounded arm, causing me
to scream out in pain. After what seemed like hours, he finally
released his hand, leaving me softly whimpering in pain. I looked at
him, to find he was sneering at me evilly. Then he looked at his
hand and grimaced slightly. Roughly he wiped what apparently was
my own blood across my fur, staining it a dark crimson. I was about
to yell at him but instead I coughed, to find a small trace of blood
falling down the side of my mouth.

"Don't want to say anything eh? Maybe you will if I-"

"MR. GREEN!"

Michel turned to see Nurse Joy standing at the doorway. She was
looking more furious then I'd ever seen her before. She stomped
forward in her pink dress and white apron and angrily stood in front
of Michel. She stood about a foot shorter then him but he still had a
worried look in his eyes.

Angrily she yelled, "I said I'd allow you to question my patient not
kill her!" Even I winced from hearing the usually kind Nurse Joy
yell so harshly. She continued on with, "This is a center for healing
pokemon, not torturing them! I want you out of this Pokemon
Center right now and I don't want to see you in here trying to hurt
the pokemon again! And don't think I'm not going to call your boss
on this matter because criminal or not, this mew deserves the right
to live."

Michel turned slightly pink in the face, and it contrasted heavily
with his green hair. He bitterly mumbled, "Yes, Mam," Before
glaring at me and walking away. Joy's eyes followed him as he left
the room before turning back to me.

"I'm very sorry for what happened, dear," she said, in a sad but
calm way. " I should have kept watch, but there are other pokemon
at the Center who also need treatment."

I coughed again before psychically responding, " I understand,
Nurse Joy." After a pause I added, "Thank you for your kindness."

"It's the least I can do for you," Nurse Joy replied. She untied my
wounded arm and lifted it slightly off the table. It hurt a little, but it
was nothing compared to what Michel Green did.

"This will hurt slightly, but I need to change your bandages and
apply medicine," she warned. I nodded to show I wouldn't mind it.
Nurse Joy slowly began to unwrap the blood stained cloth on my
arm as she asked a few curious questions.

"So who did this to you?" she asked politely.

I closed my eyes. "A Team Rocket member who was posing as a
traitor. His mission was apparently to kill me and get the others
arrested."

Joy applied a bit of liquid to my wound that stung, but I put up with
it because it was for the best overall I hoped. "Well this traitor
hasn't seemed to accomplish most of his mission. The police only
captured one other member, and I think you're going to survive and
recover back to perfect health. Amazingly the bullet didn't hit any
of your vital organs."

I smiled a bit. Then I looked to Nurse Joy with concern. "What
happened to Ira?"

Nurse Joy looked at me with a bit of pity. "I haven't heard much
about your friend. I do know that he's been taken to the jail not far
from here and that he's still ok."

"Are you sure?" I asked, trying to make completely sure that he was
really ok.

The pokemon nurse seemed to not want to directly look at me. After
a pause she said, "You need to rest, with the injuries you have." She
slowly walked over to the IV line.

"But what," I slowly began to feel very dizzy and my vision blurred.
I looked over to see that Nurse Joy had injected something into the
IV. I only had time to read her last thought before everything went
dark again.
